Many did not know that Sherman Hemsley was a progressive rock fan up until the time of his death, when articles started popping up on this subject around the web. Some still don't know it, even after looking at that flashy GIF on the front page. (Oh, and I do urge you to search for any of the number of fabulous stories on his prog obsession. They're fun, by definition.) But Sherman wasn't alone in his adoration of prog- I love it, and more than likely you're here because you love it too. Having said that, this isn't meant to be an encyclopedia. There are a lot of progressive bands out there that I don't like. For instance- sorry Floyd fans, but only the Syd Barrett-psych rock days resonate here, so they're not included. I don't even include a couple of Sherm's favorites- Gong and Nektar, for example- because in the case of the former I don't really like them, and as to the latter- I don't know them very well. (I do have his favorite Gentle Giant on here, though- but only represented in Octopus form.) These are just some of my favorite bands, and my favorite albums by those bands. Also, portions of reviews that have been written about those bands/albums, by people who write about such things much better than I do. (There's nothing quite like reading about music, huh? But these are really well written articles, those cited in this site, so please check them out.) So just search for your favorite prog artists in the directory below, live a little, perhaps learn a bit of something, read a tad- hey, why not? It's not like it's Saturday night and you're headed out to the latest incarnation of Yes at the local casino, unless of course it is Saturday, and you are. Okay- enjoy- DG.
